Our First Holiday Book Review!! Dr. Winston Bookman Approved!!!

“Red and Lulu” by Matt Tavares — Synopsis

Red and Lulu is a beautifully illustrated children’s book about two cardinals who live together in a majestic evergreen tree in a quiet suburban yard. Red and Lulu spend their days singing together, especially enjoying the warmth and beauty of the holidays when their tree glows with Christmas lights.

One day, while Red is out gathering food, their home tree is cut down and taken away on a truck—with Lulu still inside. Red desperately follows the truck across towns and cities, searching for Lulu. His journey leads him to New York City, where he finally spots their tree standing proudly as the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree.

Reunited beneath the shining lights, Red and Lulu make a new home in the city. Though different from their original home, they find comfort and joy in being together and in the annual return of the Christmas tree that brought them back to one another.

The story highlights themes of love, perseverance, home, and reunion, complemented by warm, expressive artwork.
